Support for emotional release in yoga

Picture
Regular and committed yoga practice stimulates change on a number of levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  Even if you are actively seeking these changes, they don’t always occur smoothly and easily. Many yoga practitioners experience some of the following as a result of intense practice, or breakthrough in their practice:
  • heightened emotional responses that can feel rather out of control (e.g. anger, anxiety, sadness)
  • increased awareness of old patterns
  • re-surfacing of old issues
  • increase in distractedness, low level anxiety,  feeling over stimulated
It can be hard to know how to handle these emotions, patterns and issues as they come up.  Restorative poses, mindfulness and attention to breathing may be enough to help the feelings settle.  Or time may be all that is needed to restore balance.  Sometimes though, these strategies don't help sufficiently.

Through my connection with a local yoga school I have had the pleasure of working with a number of yoga practitioners when they have had difficulty dealing with the feelings and issues that have come up in their yoga practice.

Each yoga practitioner I have worked with has had different needs.  Some needed just one or two appointments to get them through an intense phase.  Some chose a series of appointments to work progressively with old issues.  The benefits my clients have had collectively include:
  • regaining the stability needed to get them re-focused and back on track with both yoga and daily life
  • renewed resilience for facing the  challenges of their issues or practice
  • clarity and perspective on the feelings and issues
  • progressive support for exploration of old issues; change and growth
  • for some, a breakthrough in their practice has followed the flower essence work too
